KooyongKoot Alliance
About us
The KooyongKoot Alliance (KKA) is comprised of over twenty Friends Groups working in the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) catchment. The creek is a significant tributary of the Yarra River (Birrarung) and the catchment covers an area of over 100 square kilometers. See the map below to find us.
The KKA is an independent, incorporated, not-for-profit, registered charity and is also a founding member of the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) Regional Collaboration working with Government and private organisations to protect and enhance the Gardiners Creek catchment.
Our Groups
The KooyongKoot Alliance is comprised of over twenty Friends Groups working in the Gardiners (KooyongKoot) Creek catchment in the heart of Melbourne, Australia. Please click on the purple markers to find out more about a specific member group or project.
History
KooyongKoot has been integral to the development of Melbourne virtually as soon as European settlement began and the city burgeoned eastwards. Of course, about 60,000 years of Aboriginal culture preceded that.
Ecology
The Ecology of an area like the KooyongKoot catchment is the study of what organisms exist in it and how they interact with one another and their physical environment. One of KKA’s driving objectives is to help restore biodiversity throughout the KooyongKoot catchment.
Acknowledgement of Country
We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work and care for. We acknowledge their living connection to Country and culture, paying our respects to ancestors and to Elders past, present and emerging.
