Friends Groups

The KooyongKoot Alliance (KKA) is comprised of over twenty Friends Groups working in the Gardiners (KooyongKoot) Creek catchment in the heart of Melbourne, Australia.  Friends Groups may be volunteers organised as “Friends of” or “Advisory Committees” of a park, groups organised to perform regeneration work on a project basis or teams involved in plant propagation.

A key objective of the KKA is to support and nurture Friends Group and Advisory Committee members.

How to find a Friends Group

We trust there’s a group for everyone:

  • This page contains directories of Friends Groups searchable via a map, by suburb and by waterway or park.
  • Some groups are not tied to a particular location. They might be a younger-age group such as the Urban Guerillas or a group rewilding nature strips anywhere within a municipality. There are listed here.
  • If your interest is in plant propagation and growing for other groups to plant, our two member indigenous nurseries – Greenlink and Bungalook might be for you!
  • Each Friends Group is linked to its own page for access to further information including contact details.

What’s new ?

Existing or new groups, sharing our objectives, are encouraged to affiliate with us. Our latest such member is the Friends of Camberwell Junction which cares for and enhances green spaces in the Camberwell Junction precinct.

Where are they ?

Groups by Waterway or Park

Many, but not all, of our friends groups are associated with reserves along KooyongKoot (Gardiners) Creek or its tributary creeks.
