Friends of South Surrey Park has proudly completed its 30th planting season.
This winter, nearly 2000 seedlings were planted along Back Creek, helping to restore habitat for small birds and strengthen the park’s biodiversity. As always, the year began with plenty of preparation – weeding and mulching.

With generous support from Melbourne Water for both plants and group operations, we were successful in planting 709 seedlings supplied by Greenlink (Box Hill). These plants aim to create a middle storey for small birds. Thanks to the Boroondara Biodiversity Team, another 1263 seedlings went into the ground in June and July. The June planting tackled a steep slope, while July focused on suppressing weeds – especially the persistent buttercup – along the bank of Back Creek.
On average, 15 enthusiastic members worked on the last Sunday of the month and were rewarded with a well-earned morning tea.
Here’s to many more years of revegetating and renewal !
