Ashburton Creek is now channelled underground. The creek formerly flowed from Ashburton (around Liston Street) to today’s Ferndale Park in Glen Iris Road – where it joined Back Creek before flowing into KooyongKoot (Gardiners) Creek at today’s Nettleton Park.
Today, walking tracks follow the course of the former creek in a parkland environment.
Location

The Ashburton Creek Biodiversity Corridor runs through Hill n Dale Park, including areas to the east as far as Summerhill Park and to the west to Ferndale Rd in Glen Iris.
Relevant Friends’ Group

ACBC (Ashburton Creek Biodiversity Crew) is a welcoming local Friends group which cares for the corridor running along the former Ashburton Creek (now channelled underground) from Summerhill Park to Ferndale Rd. Our biodiversity work includes controlling weeds, significant revegetation and mulching to retain soil moisture.

The Crew meets every Wednesday at 8.30am along the Creek. The ACBC is always happy to welcome new members. One key objective is to encourage beneficial small birds back into our suburbs through appropriate planting.
The group is working closely with Boroondara Council developing a long term vision for the corridor.
