The KooyongKoot Alliance (KKA) and Urban Guerrillas ran another hugely successful planting event at Gardiners Creek Reserve, Burwood on Sunday, June 29th.
Such a great turnout at our recent planting at Gardiners Creek Reserve… albeit in a mixed bag of weather. At the official start of the event (10:00 am), worryingly, only 20 revegers had turned up on site. However, after the rain front moved over by 10:15am, 50 or so, we presume BoM radar watchers, miraculously materialised giving us a total of 70 or so brave souls who planted over 1,500 ground cover plants and under-storey shrubs on KooyongKoot (Gardiners) Creek – helping the creation of an important new habitat.

The new augers (pictured) are courtesy of an Australia Post grant, these made life a lot easier. Two more plantings are to follow. Only another 5000+ plants to go in !
Thanks, yet again, to the Urban Guerrillas, FO Gardiners Creek Reserve, ACF Chisholm, Deakin Enviro Club, Backyard Naturalist, Deakin Uni (for sponsoring the BBQ) and to Rotaract and Box Hill Central Rotary for doing a great job cooking! It was very nice to have Charlotte Sterrett, the former Yarra Riverkeeper, come along and support the event.

Many thanks also to David De Angelis for his interesting insights into the importance of creating the best form of revegetation for a broad range of species. We are all listening and learning (except the cooks – fortunately).
Until the next one….27th July!!
