Our President, Rex Dusting, posts the following message to all friends of the KKA:
2024 – a Year in Review of KKA
2024 has been a big year for the KooyongKoot Alliance!
Thanks to the enthusiasm, energy, and commitment of our members and supporters, we’ve made some fantastic progress in improving the health of the Gardiners (KooyongKoot) Creek catchment.
Here are just a few of the highlights:
- Building Momentum: We’ve strengthened our organisation and the way we do things this year, setting ourselves up for even more success in the future.
- Collaborating for Change: By working closely with Councils, Melbourne Water, and other stakeholders, we’ve been able to push for better long-term outcomes for our waterways, ecosystems, and communities.
- Securing Grants: We’ve been fortunate to secure new funding, which is already driving real on the ground improvements along the waterway corridors – and we’re gearing up to go after even more grants next year.
- Bringing People Together: From friends groups to schools, corporations, and community members, so many of you have pitched in to make a real difference. And isn’t it wonderful how these efforts bring us closer, too?
A Big Shoutout
This success wouldn’t be possible without the incredible dedication of so many people. Graham Ross, our tireless Catchment Keeper, who goes above and beyond, rallying people, advocating for change, and bringing big ideas to life, the committee who quietly put in countless hours to keep the Alliance moving forward and John McMahon for his behind-the-scenes work on our web-site.
Thanks to You All
We’re so grateful to everyone who’s been part of the Alliance this year. Your knowledge, passion, and commitment have been at the heart of all the improvements we’ve made on the ground.
As we look after these waterways, it’s important to reflect on the deep history of this land, the First Nations peoples who have cared for country here for tens of thousands of years.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
As the year comes to a close, we want to wish you all the best festive season and a Happy New Year. Thank you for everything you’ve done to care for the Gardiners (KooyongKoot) Creek catchment. Here’s to an even brighter 2025!
